Work continues

Keeping you up to date - Bev M.

A small triumph - Peter (anaesthetist) has finally had his luggage arrive! Wonder what stories it could tell & where it has been for the last 8 or 9 days.

Neil has been busy with some big cases this week. One lady required urgent bowel surgery & this case alone took most of the day. He is preparing to operate on the lady in charge of the border from Rwanda into DRCongo. No pressure - but she can 'make or break' the container crossings! He has another case never seen before, even in Goma, so has no experience to draw on.

Paul M has reduced his surgery this week to allow Neil full access to the theatres. Having them both operating at the same time puts a strain on resources there. One young girl he operated on last week had facial surgery & now tells him that she is beautiful & is singing around the hospital. Another lady with a large facial tumour is a challenge for him. She has virtually no hole where a mouth should be, so Paul would like to be able to give her some room for food so that she will not starve to death.

Paul B will finally be able to start work on the servers in the new building & then begin laying cables. He was kept waiting for 4 hours while a committee was formed, complete with a president & secretary, to oversee storage of the container contents. Paul was the ninth member of this committee, formed to ensure that someone knew the location of each piece. Brett will take a break from photography this week to help Paul, although Gwen still has quite a long list of subjects for him to photgraph.
